Technical Challenge:
The core challenge was orchestrating multiple concurrent events and complex interaction scenarios, including:

• Discovering all receivers on the business network.

• Uniquely identifying and maintaining the state of each receiver.

• Monitoring network connectivity.

• Assigning each view in a grid-based RecyclerView to listen to its associated receiver thread.

• Updating visible views in real-time to reflect new receiver states, including:

  • Channel changes

  • Power on/off events

  • TV signal loss

• Handling user interactions such as scrolling, recycling views, and dynamically reassigning them to new receiver threads as they become visible again.

I’m truly proud of this work. I was assigned to create a DIRECTV application for Latin American countries. At first, I assumed it would simply involve adding translations to the existing English version.

Not so fast, I told myself when I realized what lay ahead. The project came with entirely new challenges—different business rules, country-specific regulations, multiple time zones, and unique character sets all had to be carefully addressed. Even something as basic as string comparison became ineffective in this context.

I led a team of three developers, and through dedication and hard work, we overcame these hurdles. The application successfully launched in October 2015.

Feeln, formerly known as Spiritclips, brings home an exclusive library of Hallmark Hall of Fame movies, handpicked Hollywood favorites, and award-winning originals. It is the only streaming service to offer the complete Hallmark Hall of Fame collection, with new titles added every month. Feeln is part of Hallmark Cards.

As the sole developer responsible for migrating the app from Spiritclips to Feeln, I took the opportunity to re-architect the application. This redesign ensured the app could efficiently listen and respond to device and network changes. I also created and implemented new screen layouts to adapt seamlessly to every target device and orientation.

Among the many improvements and features introduced were closed captions, smoother video performance, and the elimination of code duplication.
